Growing Deaf Church Leaders is a 4 session course led by Hannah Lewis and Cathy Nightingale.

Course dates are Saturdays 4th November, 20th January, 24th March and 9th June .

Who is it for?


Any Deaf BSL Christian who wants to learn more about God and work out what God might be calling them to do

Any church background—Church of England, Independent, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, Baptist, etc

Any Deaf BSL user who has done Deaf Alpha course or something like that and wants to go further …

Any Deaf BSL user who is active in church or Christian group and wants to learn more about what they do and why

What is involved?

4 Saturdays (4th November, 20th January, 24th March, 9th June) to learn more about our own relationship with God, our call from God, leaders in the bible, our character as Christian leaders, leadership skills for the church, and look at how we continue to grow as Christian leaders

A chance to learn more about BSL worship (maybe visit BSL churches in Manchester and Liverpool)

A chance to ask questions and explore your call in a safe Deaf space

A chance to meet other Deaf Christians and support each other as you follow your call

Who is running the course?

Revd Cathy Nightingale and Revd Hannah Lewis—Deaf Church of England priests from Manchester and Liverpool with 20 years’ experience of leadership in the church and supporting and tutoring others to become leaders in the church

Other experienced Deaf Christian leaders to act as 1-1 mentors

How much will it cost?

Deaf Anglicans Together will subsidise the course but we expect to charge about £100-£200 per person in total to cover the cost of venue hire and expenses of running the course

You will also need to pay for travel to Manchester, food for the day, and overnight accommodation if you choose to stay the night

You will also need to pay to travel to visit your 1-1 mentor (but hopefully will be someone who lives quite near to you)

You will need to pay a deposit of £50

You will need a reference from a recognised church leader (or email us for ideas of who to ask)

There will be 12 places only on the course. If more people want to do it we will run it again in 2018/2019
